CF06 - Estella - Los Arcos - 20,6 km

Itinerary

From Estella, you will keep walking by the N-111 to Logroño, leaving it to the right later, soon after passing by the service station. Then, you will arrive at Ayegui, where you have two possibilities:

a) To keep going straight on, on that same side of the road and, after passing y Hotel Irachi, towards Azqueta.

b) To cross the N-111 towards Bodegas Irache, having been installed on its side La Fuente del Vino (The Wine Fountain). El Monasterio de Nuestra Señora la Real de Irache (The Monastery of Our Lady the Royal of Irache) is on the left. Then, you will go through the gardens of the monastery, leaving it behind, to cross the residential area and keep going towards Azqueta by a non-bushy holm-oak wood, between the mount Montejurra (to the left) and the N-111 (to de right).

Anyway, in both routes you will have a certain reference point: the worker’s house of Azqueta, on top of a hill.

From Azqueta, you will go down passing by a dairy and on a path that, sometimes, invades cereal crops and vineyards. Finally, you will arrive at Villamayor de Monjardín, after walking a 1 km distance. Before arriving at Villamayor, you will see the exotic Fuente de los Moros (Fountain of the Moors) on the right. The majestic ruins of the Monjardín Castle emerge over the village, surpassing the landscape.

Leaving Villamayor, you will go down the road towards the N-111 and then take a path to the right. From here to Los Arcos (12 km away) there isn’t any village. The route keeps going flatly on this undulating path in the midst of cereal crops and vineyards, crossing the limits between La Cañada, Cogullo and Capanaldia.

At the foot of the path you will leave a semi-abandoned corral and continue bordering a hillside full of conifers. Then, you will cross a small stream, almost hidden between the reeds, and descend to Charconegro, where you will find the fountain of “Paso de Baurín”. Finally, you will slightly ascend through the Goats’ Gap, from where you can see the village of Los Arcos, not too far.
