CF04 - Pamplona - Puente la Reina - 19 km

Itinerary

Leaving Cizur, you will turn right, near the court wall, in the midst of banana trees. By a wide soil track, you will gradually descend towards a residential area and keep going through it.

Then, after a large curve to the right, you will leave the path and go through some labor fields, until you cross the road to Galar. You will border this small village, which is on the left, until the road (near a poplar grove) gets into labor fields again. There you will have to follow the boundaries, and then keep going on a path bordering a stream to finally arrive at Caserío de Guendulain (worker’s house of Guendulain).

From this point, the way starts facing the first foothills of Sierra del Perdón (Forgiveness Mountain Range) which, from Pamplona, has been surpassing the horizon of this stretch. After 2 km of slight ascent, you will arrive at Zariquiegui.

You will go through the worker’s house, passing near the church and returning to the path that leads to the peak of Alto de Santa María de Erreniega (780 m), one of the high points of Sierra del Perdón. Before reaching this peak, you will see the Fountain of Reniega on your left. From the peak you will be able to see on one side, Pamplona river basin with the Pyrenees at the background; and, on the other side, the Valley of Valdizarbe, with Uterga, Muruzábal and Obanos forming a row along the way that leads to Puente la Reina, seeing in the distance the elevations of Arnotgui and Montejurra.

After crossing the road, you will initiate a pronounced descend which, in the midst of holm oaks and brushes, leads to Uterga, 3 kms ahead. Next step will be following a pavement path leading to Muruzábal, 1 km away from Uterga. Exiting the village, where a “cruceiro” raises, you will leave the road and take the path that runs parallel to it, on its right, towards Obanos.

From there, you will go down the road which joins with the Aragonese Way from Somport and leads to N-111 in a place where you can find the Monument to the Pilgrim. After that, you will arrive at Puente la Reina.
