CN21 - Avilés - Soto de Luiña - 38 Km

Itinerary

Northern Way – CN21 - Avilés - Soto de Luiña - 38 Km

The best way of leaving Avilés is heading west by the coast, on the road that goes from Muros to Luarca, going through San Cristobal de Entreviñas. Cross the tunnel on the bypass of Avilés and Piedras Blancas. Here, you will have to go on Gijón Avenue and at the end, the way heads north towards Villar. Keep going on and once you have passed La Lloba and the river La Ferrería, you will get to Ventaniella, in Santiago del Monte.

The Way goes on a paved road and zigzags between the workers’ house until it is cut by the road that goes to Piedras Blancas via Naveces. After Cueplo, the Way keeps ascending. Leaving behind the exit towards south heading to Caseras, you will start an easy ascent. At the end, the route gets to a fork, where you will turn left and after 500 m it connects with another path. At the connection, you will find three branches and you will have to take the one to the right, which will lead you to San Martín Castle, where you will take the road towards river Nalón. From the castle pier, you will have to go back and take the road to San Juan de la Arena, turning right and heading towards Soto del Barco, where you will get to the N-632, crossing a bridge over the river. Once on the left bank, you will be in Muros Council. From here, the Way initiates an ascent to Era. Keep going on the national road until you get to Muros del Nalón. The Way enters the main square where the church is located and passes by Valdecarzana Palace. Then, it is cut by the railroad close to the station, but you will have to cross the bridge over the railroad and turn right, going through a group of houses and leaving Muros Council via the small bridge over Santa Olaya Stream.

After getting into Pravia Council and leaving it, you will get to the left margin of Aguilar Stream, where you will start the stretch belonging to Cudillero. The Way goes bordering La Vana workers’ house to the road that connects it with El Pito. Continue on this road for 700 m until you get to the CU-2 (El Pito-Cudillero), and then you will leave it and go down La Vallina towards San Roque Stream and continuing on FEVE Station. Later on, you will ascend to Balandres, cross the national road and pass by El Manto, Santa Ana Stream, Las Hortonas and Las Dueñas, reaching the south part of Rellayo, where you will go down via La Magdalena towards the river Uncín meadow. Cross the river and keep going up to El Ribete.

Continue towards La Cebedal workers’ house and then on the south hillside of Pico Mayor, passing by Mumayor. From here, go up Campo Cima and then descend to the river Sequeiro, going parallel to it. Later on, cross the bridge over the river. The Way passes by Santa María Church and the hospital, via Soto old Borough and taking you towards the houses of Porto and finally getting to Cuesta de la Torre.
