Itinerary
After visiting the historical centre, you will leave Gernika-Lumo via Calle Zearreta towards Lurgorri Borough, passing by the area known as Mestikabaso. Take a paved path leading to Errigoiti, next to Santa Luzia Chapel. 100 m after having crossed Mikene Stream, you will see a path that goes up on the left and that will take you to Billikario hill range, which you will go though following the white and yellow signs. Just when you find a milestone next to the way, you will see an intersection, where you will have to turn left, going down a path ending on a byroad.
Continuing to the left, you will pass by some workers’ houses in Pozueta de Errigoiti Borough, and then you will get to the underpass to cross Gernika-Mungia road. After this, you will have to cross the road that leads to Larrabetzu, and you will finally get to San Estaban de Gerekiz.
Nearby the chapel, you will take a paved path heading towards Eskerika, leaving it later on to take a trail to the right, next to Landotz workers’ house. Now, you will descend a small stretch to continue on the path that goes on next to a river until you get to another lane on a pronounced curve.
Turning right, you will arrive to the vicinity of Pepiena workers’ house. After going around the workers’ house, you will turn right on a gravel road leading to Aretxabalaga top, on Morga-Larrabetzu road. Continue with caution on the road heading towards Larrabetzu, until you arrive at Astoreka Borough, where you will take a detour on the left to keep going on an old path to Goikolexalde.
After leaving behind San Emeterio y San Celedonio Church and also the “cruceiro”, you will continue towards the beautiful town centre of Larrabetzu following the road, to then keep going towards Lezama. Then, you will pass by Cristo Cruficado Chapel and arrive at San Martín Church, in Zamudio.
Next to the church, you will take the detour towards the industrial area and after going over the passage of Txorierri, you will continue to the right nearby a workers’ house to then go up to the left on an old path that leads towards Gaztanazabalaga workers’ house. Continue on a paved path until you reach Santo Domingo road and then keep going on for 50 m before leaving it on a path to the right, to Iturritxualde Mountain.
After passing by the recreation area, you will descend on a byway and cross a pedestrian bridge over the road, arriving at Arabella Borough in Bilbao. From here you just have to go down towards Begoña and keep going on Calzadas de Mallona to finally arrive at the Cathedral.
