CN03 - Zarautz - Deba - 25,2 Km

Itinerary

You will leave behind the historical centre and after 100 m walking towards Alto de Meaga, you will turn right on Aldapeta slope, an old road that used to connect Zarautz with Getaria. You will ascend passing by Vista Alegre Borough (on your left) and you will be able to see Santa Bárbara Chapel on the top of a hill (on your right).

After following a short cement trail, you will get to the road again, ascending until you see the coastal village of Getaria. Keep going on a paved road surrounded by vineyards until you get to the GI-3391. You will pass by the cemetery and you will leave the road on a pronounced curve. Finally, you will go down Lormendi slope, heading towards the town hall.

You will leave the town ascending via Calle Herrerieta to continue on Askizu Avenue, until you get to Gaintza and Agerregitxiki workers’ houses. Then, turning right you will go back on the avenue, which after 600 m ends on the road GI-3392. Keep going on this road until you get to Azti workers’ house, where you will take the path that leads towards Askizu Borough.

From San Martin Chapel, you will follow the path leading to Arano workers’ house. On a fork, you will take the path on the right. After going through a narrow pass, you will start descending to Zumaia. Keep going down until you get to the N-634. Once you have crossed the road, a path will lead you, passing by Zuloaga Museum and Santiago Chapel, to a pedestrian bridge over the river Urola. After crossing it, you will go down Gernika promenade. Later on, you will cross another pedestrian bridge, over Narrondo stream, and you will access to Zumaia town centre.

Leaving Zumaia, you will go up Sorazu and Arritokieta streets towards a chapel and a cemetery. A wide paved road will allow you to go up easily as you can admire the great views over Zumaia and the coast.

Walking amongst fields, you will pass by some workers’ houses and when the road turns left, you will keep straight on an ascending path. After bordering a hill, you will overcome a hard steep slope to finally get to the recreation area of Elorriaga. From here, you will keep walking on a paved road, going though the borough.

Now, you will have to descend until you get to the N-634 again; cross it and continue on the cement path that leads to the workers’ houses on Mardari Borough. Once on the top, you will turn right. Some metres before arriving at Zubeltzuzar workers’ house, you will turn right on a path leading towards Santuaran Inn, next to the N-634. Crossing the bridge over the A-8 highway, walk 500 m on the road to then take the descending cement path you will find on the right. Before arriving at Usaberartza workers’ house, you will see a path leading to Itziar top. From here, you will cross the N-634 again to access Itziar town centre.

Passing by Nuestra Señora de Itziar Church, you will leave the town centre on a paved path that goes on nearby the cemetery and starts descending. On a intersection, you will go straight on, ascending to then initiate a constant and pronounced descent. After leaving San Roque Chapel on your left, you will turn right on the old road that descends towards Deba historical centre.
