CF24 - Villadangos del Páramo - Astorga - 26 km

Itinerary

At the end of the side street in Villadangos, you will get to a great poplar grove and, after crossing a stream, you will follow on a path parallel to the N-120, on its right side. 4,5 km after this, you will arrive at San Martín del Camino, which you will leave taking a path near the road, going through irrigated lands.

After 6,5 km walking, you will turn right towards Puentes de Órbigo. You will cross the bridge of Paso Honroso and will enter Hospital de Órbigo by Calle Mayor, leaving behind the ruins of the old hospital (on the left) and San Juan’s Church (on the right). At the end of Calle Camino de Santiago, there is a division towards the N-120 on the left, and to Villares de Órbigo (2 km away) via another path.

From here, you will take a paved road towards Santibáñez de Valdeiglesias (2,5 km away) and will leave it later to carry on a path. This path, after 1 km, starts ascending the hill of Colomba to finally reach the channel carved on the left. Here, the way forks again, and you will have to turn left. Next, there is another fork, where you will turn right on a gravel road, between holm oaks and brushes. Following this path, it will lead you to a wide soil trail, which you will leave soon turning to the right and taking a path that goes up the hill surrounded by vegetation. From the top of the hill, you will descend to a valley and cross Grillo stream, going up a tableland and walking towards Teleno Mountain and to Astorga, which you will be able to see on the background.

On the right side, there is a vast pasture land with a sheepfold. Again, you will find another crossroads and will take the central path which goes to Crucero de Santo Toribio. Once there, you will go down Camino de la Cañada towards San Justo de la Vega. Instead of this, if you would prefer to take the path on the right, straighter and also called “Camino de la Piedra Fincada”, you would enter San Justo via Calle del Hospital.

Anyway, you will leave this town via Calle de los Vientos to go up the N-120 and cross the bridge over the river Tuerto. Then, you will leave the road to take a path on the right that goes parallel to it. 3 km after this, you will get to a Roman bridge that leads to Astorga. Crossing the railroad line, you will enter the city via Calle Puertasol.
